In 2016 it is noted the anniversary of fifty years from the floods of 4th November of 1966. A historic day for Venice because there was the highest high water ever recorded, accompanied by a disastrous storm and a remarkable persistence of the flow. It was an exceptional phenomenon that caused extensive damage to the cultural heritage of the city.
To commemorate the event, the City of Venice promotes at a metropolitan level a rich calendar of events, exhibitions, conferences, crucial to explain how the city responded united and compact, rebuilding, restoring, inquiring about how protect Venice and ensure for it a survival future.
The celebration was sponsored by the City of Venice in collaboration with the Scientific Committee headed by the Mayor and composed of representatives of the authorities and of the most iconic institutions of the city: Venice Biennale, University Ca 'Foscari and IUAV, Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the City of Venice and Lagoon, Teather la Fenice, Venice Museums Foundation, Marciana National Library and Querini Stampalia, Rai, FAI, Italia Nostra, Diocese of Venice, State Archives, Ateneo Veneto, UNESCO, CNR, Consorzio Venezia Nuova, Interregional Superintendence of Public Works, Piazza San Marco association and we are here Venice.
