Cultural tip: Homo Faber, experience fine craftsmanship in Venice

Did you know that the site "Venice and its Lagoon" not only has a lot to offer in terms of architecture, art, nature and landscape but also carries a rich culture in craftsmanship and small artisanal businesses tucked away in the city’s backstreets? These traditions confirm the city’s status as a World Heritage site with Outstanding Universal Value.

It is therefore no surprise that Venice is the location of the international cultural event Homo Faber from 10 April to 1 May 2022. During this event, visitors can experience inspiring exhibitions that showcase fine contemporary craftsmanship rooted in tradition and linked to the world of creativity and design, in the beautiful setting of Fondazione Giorgio Cini. The event gathers artisans from all over Europe, this year also with a special focus on Japan. Homo Faber contains 15 exhibitions, 22 curators/designers, 12 living traditions of Japan to experience, over 850 unique works crafted by more than 400 designers and artisans from 43 countries. The event is organised by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, a private, international, non-profit foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland with a mission to preserve, encourage and promote fine craftsmanship.

The Homo Faber spirit spreads to the rest of the city as well, where Venetian artisans open their doors for those interested, ranging from glass blowing, to paper crafting, ceramics, or costume and mask making… Homo Faber in città offers visitors an insight behind the scenes of the wonderful Venetian heritage.
