Alberoni Dunes and Ca’ Roman

The Venice-Pellestrina Lido, which can be easily reached by public transportation, offers tourists a chance to make excursions both on foot and by bike to visit the complex dune systems of Alberoni and Ca’Roman located between the Venice and Pellestrina Lido. The Alberoni Dune Oasis holds one of the largest and best preserved dune systems on the coasts of the Northern Adriatic Sea. With dunes as much as 10 meters tall, and hiking trails crossing a large pine forest of about 30 hectares, unique species of flora and fauna find their habitat here. It is an extremely special and delicate environment. Ca’ Roman constitutes the southern strip of the shores, from Cavallino to Chioggia, separating the Venice lagoon from the sea. Thanks to its relative isolation, Ca’ Roman preserves one of the most untouched dune environments of the entire Northern Adriatic area and boasts an extremely rich wildlife, despite its reduced size: it is in fact located on one of the most important migratory routes in Italy and countless bird species (190 total recorded until 2012) use it in autumn and spring to rest and feed before continuing their journey. Due to its environmental value, Ca’ Roman is a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and a Special Protection Area (SPA).
