Methodology

In the fall of 2010, the Municipality of Venice, in its quality of administrator of the Site, in collaboration with the Unesco Office in Venice, launched a series of thematic consulting debates with technicians and directors from the organizations who signed the Agreement in July 2007. The objective was to adequately define the Site’s critical points and opportunities, in order to prepare the Management Plan and assess the expectations of the involved organizations. The comparison between organizations and main stakeholders formed the base for the later development of a common vision concerning the management of the Site. The entire process implied the involvement of about 250 public bodies and main stakeholders, with a participation of about 60%. In three months, 136 proposals to be developed within the Plan were formulated. The process of consultation with the organizations responsible for the Site was initiated concerning the following issues, which can be classified in five categories:
- Regional planning and governance;
- Protection and conservation of heritage;
- Sustainable use of the Site;
- Communication, promotion and training;
- Knowledge and sharing.
