Venice Port Authority

The Venice Port Authority (VPA) is a public body in charge of allocating, planning, coordinating, promoting and controlling port operations. The Authority’s responsibilities include developing a sustainable port with the local environment, improving security and safety, promoting the numerous services offered and enhancing its social function.

The Port Authority of Venice became part of the Steering Committee of the UNESCO Site “Venice and its Lagoon” in 2012. The institution performs the following institutional responsibilities concerning the protection of Venice and its Lagoon: maintenance of the seabed and common areas, management of the coastal domain, port development planning and surveillance of the supply of services of general interest.

The projects of the Management Plan involving the Venice Port Authority

  • Port channels and reclamation of industrial areas
  • Reconversion intervention of brownfields to third activities along the lagoon waterfront of Porto Marghera and Fusina
  • Realization of information points, about the UNESCO Universal Values, in the strategic access points of the Site
  • Explore synergies between land and sea traffic
